Noise characterization studies for Rydberg dressing entangling gates

As neutral atoms in optical tweezers have become an increasingly competitive platform for scalable quantum computation, reliable high-performance two qubit gates are increasingly important. One avenue towards achieving such gates is through Rydberg dressing, wherein there are several pathways to inherently robust gate designs such as spin-dependent adiabatic phase accumulation (Mitra et al. 2020) and hyperfine spin-flip blockade (Buchemmavari et al. 2024). As we pursue these gates, we develop methods for characterizing pertinent sources of noise for Rydberg-dressing physics. We use a combination of well-studied NMR-style echo sequences and analogous dynamical versions to perform noise characterization, revealing the atomic response to applied drive fields. We then use these results and direct tests of gate fidelity to assess the current performance of our gates. Finally, we discuss conditions for when these gates may be advantageous over conventional, direct Rydberg excitation approaches.
