Confining a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in optical dipole traps allows for versatility in the shape of the trap and the existence of relatively large condensates. In this poster, we discuss the specifications for our new optical dipole trap, to be used in conjunction with a magnetic trap for creating a BEC of 87Rb atoms in a glass cell. The new experimental design will allow us to trap atoms in multiple spin states, enabling our group to realize a BEC co-trapped with atoms in a 3D spin-dependent optical lattice, which should allow for quantum computation. This setup will require three pairs of optical lattice beams and two crossed harmonic trap beams, as well as radiofrequency and microwave fields, a pair of tightly-focused beams to individually address lattice sites, and an imaging system.
