Towards a continuously reloaded ytterbium tweezer array

Neutral atom qubits are a promising approach for quantum computing, networking and entanglement-enhanced metrology. However, several outstanding challenges remain to realizing scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computing, including performing repeated mid-circuit measurements and qubit reloading. Qubits based on metastable Yb atoms provide a natural solution to these challenges, as the metastable state is immune to photon scattering from the light used to cool and image ground state atoms. In this poster, we will describe the construction of a new apparatus combining a tweezer array with a dipole-trap guided atomic beam to enable continuous reloading and high-throughput mid-circuit measurements. We will also briefly discuss a recently proposed approach to modular quantum computing with metastable Yb qubits [1].
