Momentum state lattices (MSLs) provide a platform to engineer tunable tight-binding models for the exploration of novel transport phenomena. While MSLs have been shown to be a flexible quantum simulation platform in one dimension, their extension to large, non-separable lattices in higher dimensions has previously been limited. We describe new efforts to construct a momentum state lattice experiment in higher dimensions and with control of gauge fields, kinetic frustration, and tunable open system boundaries for the exploration of topological phenomena with nonlinear matter waves evolving in momentum space.
