Topics:

Optimization of Loading and Trapping for Bose-Einstein Condensation

Poster 98
Presenter: Mark Gin (University of San Diego)
Author: Maren Mossman (University of San Diego)

The number of atoms in an optically trapped Bose-Einstein condensate is highly dependent on initial atom numbers in a magneto-optical trap, optimization of molasses, and loading efficiency into an optical tweezer. In particular, the temperature of the atoms prior to transfer to an optical trap also plays a pivotal role in the transition from gas to Bose-Einstein condensate in Rb-87. In this work, we summarize the key optimization steps and report on the current status and capabilities of the experimental apparatus at the University of San Diego, along with planned next steps for the lab.
