The use of Barium 133, 133Ba+, as a qubit is an encouraging avenue for quantum computing due to its incorporation in the omg protocol, utilization of visible wavelengths for cooling and loading, and efficient photoionization. We demonstrate that the usage of 530.8 nm for autoionization increases the loading rate by four orders of magnitude. Previous research has improved coherence times and decreased error rates in microwave and Raman gates. Current studies attempt to build on these techniques using integrated photonics, a candidate for scalable quantum computers. With the development of waveguides and a novel microfabricated parabolic mirror in a photonic integrated circuit, we aim to trap ions and show multi-qubit control.
